Merge Duplicates in Contacts App

In iOS 16, the Contacts app can detect if you have duplicate contacts and merge the information for you.

Begin with opening Contacts. If you have duplicates, a gray box appears at the top of the app.

Tap VIEW DUPLICATES to see what contacts are duplicated. To easily merge all the cards found, tap MERGE ALL.

However, if you wish to review the information for specific cards first, tap on a name.

When you tap on a name, all duplicate cards for that contact display. Tap a duplicate contact to view the information. The ‘Merged Contact Information’ section displays all the information that will be merged in to a single card. To view all details, scroll within that section or tap VIEW ALL.

Here, tap MERGE to merge the single contact you’re viewing. Tap IGNORE if you do not wish to merge the contact.

 
 

Tap BACK, to return to all the duplicate contacts and the MERGE ALL option.
