Take Live Photos

A Live Photo is a 3-second moving image created by using the Live Photos feature in the Camera app which captures 1.5 seconds of video before and after you take a photo. Here's how to take Live Photos on an iPhone 6S or newer.

You may find Live Photos in the Photos app you didn't realize you captured and that's because the camera app is designed to automatically turn on the Live Photos feature each time you use the PHOTO mode. If you don't want Live Photos turned on every time you take photos, then follow these steps:

  1. Open SETTINGS app

  2. Tap CAMERA

  3. Tap PRESERVE SETTINGS

  4. For LIVE PHOTO, tap the slider to turn on (green means the feature is on)

  5. Open CAMERA app

  6. Select PHOTO mode (if not already selected)

  7. Tap the Live Photos button to turn off. The Live Photo setting will be preserved.
