Save Your Favorite Photos and Videos

Many more friends and family members text us photos than ever before as they can share their experiences with us instantly. It's easy to view the photos and leave them in the Messages app but over time we may forget those precious pictures or possibly loose them in an upgrade. Therefore, it's essential that we save our favorites to the Photos app, so they become part of our main photo collection (*where the photos you've taken are saved) and can be readily accessed.

Here's an excerpt from my Digital Photo Organizing on the Go! Quick Start Guide which provides instructions on how to save your favorite photos and videos from the Messages app to the Photos app:

It’s easy to loose track of photos received in texts even with the improved accessibility in iOS 13. As everyone continues to communicate by texting, more photos arrive daily. So it becomes a challenge to keep track of your absolute favorites.

My recommendation is to save them to your main photo collection as soon as possible, then delete them from Messages to clear storage space. This way you safeguard your memories and enjoy them more easily in the Photos app.

  1. Tap MESSAGES app, then tap a conversation

  2. Tap the person’s name at top

  3. Tap ( i ) info

  4. Scroll to PHOTOS

  5. Tap SEE ALL PHOTOS

  6. Tap SELECT

  7. Tap each photo/video you wish to save, then tap SAVE

  8. *Once the photos and videos are saved, repeat the above steps to select the photos and videos again

  9. Tap DELETE

  10. Tap DELETE # ATTACHMENTS

  11. Tap < arrow icon

  12. Tap DONE

The Quick Start Guide specifically helps you consolidate photos and videos from texts and emails, organize screenshots, clear out excessive digital clutter and increase storage space. I created it for iPhones and iPads with iOS 14 installed, but it also applies to previous versions, even though the options may vary slightly. The instructions can be followed whether you’re at home or on the go…and if you have iCloud Photos enabled, the actions you take automatically sync to your other Apple devices and iCloud.com.
