Automatically Close Website Tabs

If you find you have too many websites open in the Safari app, here's how to easily manage tabs going forward.

iPhone/iPad
Software Version iOS 13 or newer

First, determine what websites are open:

  1. Open the SAFARI app

  2. Tap the TABS icon to view all open website tabs (noted in blue on the screenshots below)

  3. Swipe the screen to scroll through the websites

  4. Tap DONE when finished

Next, decide how often you would like the Safari app to automatically close tabs you haven't viewed recently.

Automatically Close Website Tabs You Haven't Viewed Recently

  1. Tap the SETTINGS app

  2. Tap SAFARI

  3. For Tabs, tap CLOSE TABS

  4. Select an option: After One Day, After One Week, After One Month (or Manually)

  5. Close the SETTINGS app

If you prefer to close the tabs manually, here are two methods:

Close a Website Tab

  1. Tap the TABS icon to view all open website tabs

  2. Tap the X next to the specific website tab

  3. Tap DONE when finished

Close All Website Tabs

  1. Tap and hold the TABS icon to view a menu of options

  2. Tap CLOSE ALL # TABS

  3. Confirm by tapping CLOSE ALL # TABS
